Corrections Victoria acknowledges the passing of a 43-year-old prisoner at the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP). We send our deepest condolences to the man’s family.
Deaths in custody have an impact on family members, friends and corrections staff, as well as victims of crime – we’re working to ensure they are provided with the support they need.
The staff and men at MAP are also being supported.
All deaths in custody are reported to the Coroners Court of Victoria, which formally determines the cause of death.
