Many individuals subject to a community-based order are required to complete unpaid community work hours during their order.

Community work provides a chance for individuals to pay back the community and build work-related skills.

People given work opportunities and employability skills are less likely to reoffend, helping them to make a fresh start in life.

Community work can also increase an individual’s self-esteem and well-being and provide new purpose and direction.

Many community work programs include structured training and employment pathways.

Our programs

Community work programs vary widely and include indoor and outdoor work programs such as:

  • soft toy making
  • cooking
  • parks maintenance
  • graffiti removal.

Community work programs are inclusive and provide opportunities for people with a variety of needs, abilities, genders, cultural and religious backgrounds, including those with work or caring responsibilities.

Wherever possible, participants are placed in programs that benefit both them and the community.

Community partnerships

Community Correctional Services (CCS) partners with a diverse range of organisations to develop and deliver appropriate community work programs.

Community work programs help not-for-profit organisations that have difficulty securing enough volunteers or people to ensure the success of their local community initiatives.

Partner with us

Community work programs can be hosted by many different types of organisations, such as charities, schools, parks, councils, cemeteries and community groups. We can assist in completing works, maintenance, meal preparation and distribution, and with special projects.
