The Prison Workforce Strategy (strategy) outlines how Corrections Victoria will support and upskill its prison workforce over the next 10 years.

The strategy shows how Corrections Victoria will build a supported workforce that has the skills, values and competencies required to deliver correctional services to the highest standard. In line with this goal, the strategy introduces a Prison Workforce Competency Framework, which reflects the core competencies Corrections Victoria values for people who work in its prisons. It will also ensure Corrections Victoria has a consistent and evidence-based approach to recruitment, learning and development.

The strategy has 5 focus areas:

  1. Attraction, recruitment and merit-based promotion
  2. Building and retaining a skilled, knowledgeable and capable workforce
  3. Promoting the safety and wellbeing of the workforce
  4. Enhancing Aboriginal cultural safety
  5. Building a continuous improvement culture

Each focus area outlines the long-term objectives for Corrections Victoria’s prison workforce, as well as work that will be prioritised in the next 2 years.

Every 2 years the strategy will be reviewed, and new actions will be developed in consultation with staff.
