The purpose of the Strategy is to provide a high-level blueprint for how the corrections system will reduce drug and alcohol-related offending, as well as the harm caused by drugs and alcohol to corrections staff, prisoners and offenders, their families and the community.
It does this by focusing on four over-arching goals: supply control, demand reduction, harm reduction and monitoring and innovation.
It is intended as a flexible framework that is capable of responding to changing social trends and patterns of drug use over time, with a strong emphasis on evaluation, evidence-based practice and robust governance.
