In an environmental and animal-friendly initiative, men from Barwon Prison’s textiles team have created several dog beds in different shapes and sizes for a local animal shelter.

The project began with a Lean initiative to sort and organise raw materials. The men suggested using leftover textiles from previous community engagement programs to create dog beds. Beds were then designed and produced in assorted sizes.

The beds were provided to the local animal shelter, run by Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS). GAWS is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes the value of companion animals to improve the health and wellbeing of the wider community.

This initiative by the men showed great care for the animals in their community, helped them learn valuable textile skills and has provided environmental benefits through a reduction in landfill.

The dogs certainly seem happy with the project outcome!
