Corrections Victoria acknowledges the death of an 84 year old prisoner at St John's Hospital within Port Phillip Prison on 7 September 2023.
We recognise that all deaths in custody have an impact on family members, friends, those working within the corrections system, as well as victims of crime, and we're working to ensure they are provided with the support they need.
The staff and people in custody at Port Phillip Prison are also being supported.
All deaths in custody are reported to the Coroners Court of Victoria, which formally determines the cause of death.
