Corrections Victoria acknowledges the death of a 33 year old prisoner at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre on 2 September 2023.

The death of any person in custody is a tragedy and the team at Corrections Victoria sends its condolences to the person's family.

We recognise that all deaths in custody have an impact on family members, friends and corrections system staff, as well as victims of crime, and we're working to ensure they are provided with the support they need.

The staff and women at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre are also being supported.

All deaths in custody are reported to the Coroners Court of Victoria, which formally determines the cause of death.
