The procedure applying in each prison is outlined below.

Barwon Prison

All requests for a professional phone call are to be made through the Records department. Requests are to be sent by email to  barwonrecords@justice.vic.gov.au (External link)and should include:

  • Prisoner’s full name
  • CRN if known
  • Preferred date and time of phone call.

Beechworth Correctional Centre

Requests for a professional phone call with a prisoner at Beechworth Correctional Centre can be directed by email to  beechworth.records@justice.vic.gov.au (External link)

Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC)

The process for solicitors booking a legal phone call with their client is as follows:

Dhurringile Prison

All requests for a professional phone call are to be made through the Records department. Requests are to be sent by email to dhurringile.records@justice.vic.gov.au (External link) and must include:

  • Prisoner’s full name
  • Preferred date and time of phone call

Fulham Correctional Centre

All requests for a professional phone call are to be made by email or fax to the Records department, however email is preferred. Requests are to be sent by email to fulhamrecords@geogroup.com.au (External link) or by fax to (03) 5142 3832, and must include:

  • Prisoner’s details
  • Preferred date and time of phone call
  • Contact number.

A return email or fax will be sent from the Records department, providing confirmation.

If possible, a period of 24 hours prior notice is preferred.

Hopkins Correctional Centre

All requests for a professional phone call are to be made by email to the Records department. Requests are to be sent to hopkinsrecords@justice.vic.gov.au (External link) and must include:

  • Prisoner’s full name
  • Preferred date and time of phone call.

Confirmation will then be sent to the requesting party along with the phone conference number.

Langi Kal Kal Prison

All requests for a professional phone call are to be made by email to the Records department.
Requests are to be sent to lkkrecords@justice.vic.gov.au (External link) and must include:

  • Prisoner's full name
  • Either CRN or JAID, instead of these, the prisoner's date of birth
  • Who will be speaking with the prisoner
  • The preferred date and time of the call
  • The required duration of the call. This allows scheduling of appropriate time.
  • The nature of the call. This does not need to be detailed, but the prison does require a general idea so that they can inform the prisoner, e.g., legal, child protection, disability services.
  • The email must contain the business name of the firm or government department the caller is representing.

Loddon Prison Precinct (Middleton)

Loddon and Middleton Prison do not provide a service of booking a professional phone call with a prisoner, however they do recognise that urgent contact may sometimes be required. In such circumstances, solicitors are able to send a fax under their firm’s letterhead to (03) 5471 1222. This request must include:

  • Prisoner’s full name
  • Preferred date and time of phone call
  • The prisoner will then be advised to make a phone call through the Prison Telephone System at their own expense.

Marngoneet Correctional Centre (MCC) and Karreenga Annexe

All requests for a professional phone call to MCC are to be made by email to the Records department. Requests are to be sent to Marngoneet.Records@justice.vic.gov.au (External link) and must include:

  • Prisoner’s details
  • Preferred date and time of phone call
  • Contact details of agency
  • Staff will confirm the booking by way of phone call and advise the dial in number for the schedule call.

Requests for a professional phone call with a prisoner at Karreenga Annexe can be directed by email to Karreenga.records@justice.vic.gov.au

Melbourne Assessment Prison

While the Melbourne Assessment Prison does not provide a service of booking a professional phone call with a prisoner, it does recognise that urgent contact may sometimes be required. In such circumstances, a request can be sent to the prison by email to MAP-Enquiries@justice.vic.gov.au  (External link)with the following information:

  • Prisoner’s full name
  • Preferred date and time of phone call.

Metropolitan Remand Centre

All request for a professional phone call are to be made by fax to the Records department on (03) 9217 7783 and must include:

  • Prisoner’s details
  • Preferred date and time of phone call
  • Letterhead and details of agency
  • Return fax number

Confirmation is provided on the day before the booking by way of return fax with the dial in number for the appointment.
Requests can be sent via email to MRC.Records@justice.vic.gov.au (External link) in the event that a fax machine is not accessible.

Port Phillip Prison

All requests for a professional phone call are to be made by email to the Government Functions department. Requests are to be sent by email to PPPGovernmentFunctions@au.g4s.com (External link), and must include:

  • Prisoner’s details
  • Preferred date and time of phone call.

Ravenhall Correctional Centre

Requests for professional phone calls are to be sent by fax on a firm's letterhead to the Records Department (03) 8363 6551. Requests must include:

  • Prisoner’s full name
  • Preferred date and time of phone call

Tarrengower Prison

All requests for a professional phone call are to be sent by fax to (03) 5479 8244, and must include:

  • Prisoner’s details
  • Preferred date and time of phone call
  • Letterhead and details of agency
  • Expected length of call
  • Nature of the call.

Confirmation of the booking is provided by return fax.
