The Hopkins Correctional Centre (Ararat) Precinct Development Plan, released in March 2011, provides detailed information about the design process and features of the redevelopment of the Hopkins Correctional Centre site.
The redevelopment project incorporates a 350-bed expansion of the existing medium-security Hopkins Correctional Centre, in addition to the 40-bed transitional facility, Corella Place, which opened in March 2010.
The Department of Justice and the Hopkins Correctional Centre Precinct Development Community Advisory Group worked to develop the precinct plan over a six-month period, with input from the contractor, Aegis Correctional Partnership, who is responsible for the delivery of the works.
In October 2012, Aegis appointed a new builder, Brookfield Multiplex Constructions, to complete the project. While the original construction timelines, outlined in the precinct plan, changed due to this restructure, the project is on schedule for construction to be completed in late 2014.
The Community Advisory Group will continue to meet on a quarterly basis until construction completion.
