All of our prisons took time out once again this year to commemorate ANZAC Day in an appropriate and respectful manner, holding remembrance services for both staff and prisoners to honour those who have served Australia in times of war.

Some of our prisons, such as the maximum security Melbourne Assessment Prison and Barwon Prison for male prisoners, have well-established ANZAC Memorial Gardens in which to hold these important events, that were also attended by invited guests from the local community.

Prisoners were involved in readings and musical contributions, and the laying of wreaths. Traditional elements of an ANZAC day service were observed, including the playing of The Last Post and the observance of a minute's silence.
