The 17th annual conference of the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) was held in Melbourne in the week of 26-30 October 2015, hosted by Corrections Victoria Commissioner Jan Shuard.

This was undoubtedly the biggest conference that corrections in Victoria has ever hosted, and it turned out to be a great success.

With more than 600 delegates in attendance from some 54 countries, this was a massive logistical exercise, and in fact the biggest conference that ICPA has ever held.

For four days, speakers explored the key conference theme of best practice risk management in contemporary corrections from an extremely wide variety of perspectives. A particular highlight was the Host Country Day in which presenters from Corrections Victoria and other Australian jurisdictions and New Zealand showcased the very best of correctional practice from across our two nations.

A memorable host welcome reception was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and a formal dinner and awards ceremony in the Grand Ballroom at the Pullman Hotel. As well, the final day of the conference provided a terrific opportunity for our international and interstate visitors to participate in prison tours across the State. And there were plenty of opportunities for networking throughout the course of the week-long event.
